George Mason faculty are leading groundbreaking work in defense and security research, bringing deep expertise from across the university’s colleges, schools, and specialized centers to address some of the nation’s most pressing security challenges.

George Mason University has appointed Massimiliano Albanese as executive director of the Institute for Digital Innovation (IDIA)—a pivotal move as the university strengthens its position as a leader in cutting-edge research and technological advancement.

Earlier this year, Melissa Perez was named assistant vice president for research security in the Office of Research Integrity and Assurance at George Mason University. In this role, she oversees university-wide policies and processes to ensure compliance with research security laws and regulations (including export control), international collaborations, travel, and cybersecurity. As George Mason’s designated research security officer, she also leads institutional responses to threats affecting the university’s research compliance and standing.

With the opening of the new Visualization and Virtual Reality Lab in Research Hall, George Mason has the opportunity to be part of this global movement and to be a leader in transdisciplinary research.

Starting in fall 2024, George Mason University will change how it approaches academic integrity and honor code violations.

George Mason University’s goals to not only “expand the impact of Mason’s research, scholarship, and creative enterprise” but also to “deliver a distinctive and inclusive student experience” provide a vast wealth of opportunities for undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience under the direct supervision from faculty to are leaders in their disciplines.

All individual files located in the university’s current enterprise file storage system, MESA M: mydata, will migrate to OneDrive in April. 

The Office of Undergraduate Education recently awarded five groups with Summer Team Impact Project Grants. These grants are part of the larger Mason Impact program.

In her role as associate director for graduate professional and career development, Stephanie Bluth has established programs that allow Mason to meet state, national, and federal requirements while preparing students for the changing workforce and ensuring that those who come to Mason not only leave with degrees but also with job force readiness skills.

The Global Education Office is reimagining and redesigning its vision while it prepares students for success in an increasing international and interconnected world and expands Mason’s global footprint.
