George Mason University Korea kicked off its 10th anniversary celebrations with a lively reception that brought together Mason Korea students, faculty, and staff, current and past leaders, visitors from George Mason's Fairfax Campus, and members of the Mason Korea advisory board.
The event included a recognition ceremony for Mason Korea employees with five to ten years of service. Janette Muir, vice provost for academic affairs and chair of the Mason Korea LLC Board, presented awards to five-year employees. Robert Matz, dean of Mason Korea, honored those with six to nine years of service, and George Mason University President Gregory Washington recognized faculty and staff with 10 years of service—those who have been at Mason Korea since it opened.
The event featured a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the Green Machine pep band and Mason Korea's student bands, Crescent and Sketch. The electric energy of the bands filled the banquet hall with a mix of English and Korean pop hits.
Sherlin Amaya Medrano, Mason Korea Student Government president, also offered her congratulations to the campus community. The 10th anniversary celebration continues throughout the week with a series of public events.
