Every year, the College Art Association of America hosts a CAA Conference. This conference provides the value of shared scholarship, research, and practice among members and those dedicated to the visual arts. This event is an opportunity for collaboration, networking, and professional development.
This year, CAA held its 109th conference, virtually, and three School of Art faculty were chosen to be presenters: Rachel Debuque, Director of Studio Foundations, Christopher Kardambikis, Director of Printmaking, and Justin Sutters, Director of Master of Arts in Teaching. This year the conference is focusing on the topic of Climate Crisis, including eco-art, eco-criticism, and climate justice.
According to Sutters, “I viewed this as an opportunity to expand my professional sphere of influence while also presenting with colleagues on other academic spaces that I would not normally engage with. I found it important to represent Mason across disciplines and venture into dialogue and interactions that might yield future collaboration.”
Topics this year include:
- The Entomology and Etymology of Art Education, arts-based research as praxis by Justin P. Sutters, PhD.
- Sheltering in Place, Developing Print Curriculum for online and off Press by Christopher Karambikis and Justin. P Sutters.
- Building a Curriculum Centered on Inclusion, Inclusive Pedagogy, Curriculum, and Policies as Visionary Work, by Rachel Debuque.
