Schar School's Marketing Team Gains a New Voice as Demand for Higher Education Grows

Priscilla Tran, the new Admissions Marketing Coordinator for the Schar School of Policy and Government, uses her experiences abroad to expand creative outreach in the Schar School’s marketing team.

Tran started out as an undergraduate in international relations studying diplomacy before making the move to marketing. From Hong Kong, where she worked in business communications at Hong Kong Baptist University, to the Washington, D.C., area, she brings a valuable new global perspective to a key role in expanding the marketing and advertising efforts to reach graduate students, transfer students, and incoming freshmen.

The Northern Virginia area is growing at an impressive rate, particularly after this winter’s location announcement of Amazon H2Q. Following the immense job growth comes an increase in demand for higher education. It is more important than ever to get the story of the Schar School out there to prospective students.

Tran’s primary focus is in freshman and transfer student marketing, where growth potential is the largest. “I am here to create compelling content to attract and draw in prospective students,” she said. “I ask why a student would want to choose the Schar School over every other school in the area and go from there.”

When asked what she likes most about her work, she said, “There is this giant creative pool that I am a part of. The flexibility to have my ideas heard and to collaborate with everyone from the top down is what I like best about working for the Schar School.”

Tran enjoys knowing her work is engaging prospective students and seeing the difference it’s making, she suggested. “I can see the impact that I’m making and learn from it,” she said.

After graduating from Temple University with a marketing degree in her hometown of Philadelphia, Penn., Tran made the move to Hong Kong.

“With my experiences abroad, I can remember back and get the creative juices flowing in the recruitment marketing efforts,” she said.
