U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris visited George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus on Tuesday to speak to students on the importance of voting, in commemoration of National Voter Registration Day.
Before appearing to hundreds of students gathered on Wilkins Plaza, the vice president spoke to Assistant Professor Samuel Frye’s integrative studies class, “Community, Culture and Change,” as a surprise guest speaker.

Caprecia Miller, a Master of Social Work student, wanted to take action to address issues of systemic racism and police brutality. Her work in voter outreach gained national recognition. In March 2021, she received the CRISP Student of the Year Award.

George Mason University was named a “Voter Friendly Campus” as the result of a campus-wide strategy to increase voter turnout. Mason is one of more than 231 colleges and universities across 37 states and the District of Columbia to earn this designation.
