    The Honors College invites guest speakers to share their expertise with students. One such speaker was Andrew White, a Mason alum and author of "Hell Followed with Us," a Young Adult novel that addresses issues of transgender legislation. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn from his experiences. This is just one example of the many opportunities for students to connect with experts in their fields.

    Amanda Bryan is a professor at George Mason University who teaches composition and literature. She has a PhD in postcolonial studies from UNC Greensboro and a certificate in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. Her research explores how postcolonial cultural studies and indigenous research methods can enhance ideas of belonging and community. She has published articles on Caribbean literature, errantry, decolonization, and mysticism.

    Tharuna Kalaivanan is a PhD student in the Public and Applied Sociology Program at George Mason University. She graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2020. She is also an Honors College Alum.

    Kevin Avruch received his A.B. from the University of Chicago and M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). In 2009 Avruch was appointed the Henry Hart Rice Professor of Conflict Resolution (succeeding Nadim Rouhana), and in 2013 he became S-CAR’s second Dean, succeeding Andrea Bartoli. In 2020 he became Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and Henry Hart Rice Professor of Conflict Resolution Emeritus.
