Biography
Dr. Natalie Brooks, an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing in the College of Public Health, is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. With a background in psychology from the University of Rhode Island and nursing studies at Shenandoah University, Dr. Brooks seamlessly integrates real-world insights with academic rigor. Her educational focus extends to GMU's Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs, specializing in depressive and bipolar disorders, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma across the lifespan. Additionally, she brings expertise in forensic nursing.
Dr. Brooks employs a dynamic teaching approach, blending online and in-person instruction in courses such as NURS 743, NURS 632, NURS 782, NURS 783, NURS 784, NURS 785, NURS 921, NURS 922, NURS 980, and NURS 981. She actively contributes to hands-on learning experiences as the co-instructor of the Psychiatric Simulation Practice Lab and serves as a DNP Project Chair, guiding students through their doctoral research projects.
Complementing her academic role, Dr. Brooks maintains an active clinical practice in outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization settings. Her commitment to a collaborative, evidence-based, and empathetic approach is evident in both her teaching and clinical endeavors.
