Biography
Dr. Maction Komwa is a Research Faculty and Adjunct Professor in the Departments of Global and Community Health | Geography and GeoInformation Science. He is experienced across many areas including infectious disease epidemiology in HIV/AIDS, international health policy & strategies, geospatial trends of food security, geospatial mapping for resource conservation and environment. As a Norman Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture Program (LEAP) Fellow, he conducted qualitative and quantitative field-work in the rural southeastern Uganda in summer of 2006 and 2007, investigating the impacts of HIV/AIDS on household nutrition and agricultural production. In his research work, he has collaborated with researchers from various institutions such as the University of Hohenheim Stuttgart in Germany, the International Food Policy Research Institute in DC, Government of Uganda, and George Mason University. Dr. Komwa has also worked as a consultant with the International Food Policy Research Institute and the World Bank on work related to geospatial data analysis especially on household food nutritional security policy, land management technologies, market accessibility, and poverty mapping. Dr. Komwa is currently collaborating with George Mason University - Center for Social Complexity on developing multi-agent simulation models on HIV/AIDS in disaster and refugee areas of East Africa region.
Dr. Komwa received a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Policy from George Mason University and a M.A. in Geographic Information Sciences for Development and Environment from Clark University. His research is in Multi-agent simulation models on HIV/AIDS.
