Biography

Irvin Varkonyi, CSCP, PLog, SC Resilience is an adjunct faculty member in Transportation Policy, Operations and Logistics. Mr. Varkonyi teaches a popular course in Transportation Security which provides an in depth journey into understanding the challenge of securing multi-modal transportation systems from public and commercial perspectives. He has previously taught Business Logistics and Express Systems in the TPOL program. Mr. Varkonyi is President of Supply Chain Operations Preparedness Education (SCOPE), a firm offering training and consulting in organizational preparedness for private and public sector organizations.

Mr. Varkonyi holds adjunct positions at American Public University, University of Denver and Northern Virginia Community College. He is a certified master instructor with the DC Metro chapter of APICS, teaching their Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) program and professional programs in Inventory Management. Mr. Varkonyi’s career has encompassed the global transportation and logistics system working with global carriers and Third Party Logistics firms. As a member of the Supply Chain Risk Management Consortium, he co-developed a new professional certification – Supply Chain Resilience in collaboration with the Canadian Professional Logistics Institute. Mr. Varkonyi is editor of the Professional Development column in the Defense Transportation Journal published by the National Defense Transportation Association and Dean of the NDTA Transportation University.  He has spoken at annual conferences of multiple supply chain professional associations including APICS, Council of Supply Chain Professionals, Institute of Supply Management and the Transportation Research Board.

Mr. Varkonyi holds an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and served in the Peace Corps.
