Biography
Carmella Taitt is from Brooklyn, New York and is presently a Junior dance major at George Mason University. Her dance training initiated at age 3 with West African and Jazz at the Restoration Youth Arts Academy. In 2014 Carmella joined the Dance Theatre of Harlem School as a scholarship student where she trained under Robert Garland and Augustus van Heerden. Her enrollment to the Professional Performing Arts High School during the years 2015-2018, was the beginning of her training at the Alvin Ailey School. In addition, from 2016-2018 Carmella joined the Jr. Division department of the Alvin Ailey School as a scholarship student. While attending the Ailey School, she trained under Fredrick Earl Mosely, Guillermo Asca, Shay Bland, Adrienne Hurd, Cassandra Phipher, Judine Summerville, Tadej Brdnik, Freddie Moore and others. Furthermore, Carmella is grateful to have studied at a vast number of summer intensives as a scholarship student at institutions including the Earl Mosely Institute of the Arts(15’ 16’ 17’ 20’), Alvin Ailey SI( 18’), New York Dance Project(19’), and Rioult(19’). Throughout her time studying at George Mason University, she has so far worked with choreographers including Bill T Jones, Hope Boykin, and Susan Shields.
