Dear Colleagues,
As you have seen, on a day-to-day basis, the campus determines whether it can fully open, must delay opening, or close due to the current array of weather events. These decisions are guided by University Policy 2207: Inclement Weather/Emergency Closure.
As a reminder, in the event of a closure or delayed opening, we ask that all faculty carefully consider how best to continue offering their courses or lab sessions using alternative modalities. Specifically:
- If it is not possible to be physically present for a specific course or lab session, faculty should, in consultation with their department chair and dean’s office, exercise their discretion and pivot that course or lab session to a remote modality. Faculty should clearly and promptly communicate with students, their chair, and their dean.
- If faculty determine it is not possible to offer a specific course or lab session remotely, they should work with their chair and dean’s office to determine appropriate next steps for postponing and rescheduling that session. Additional information about ad hoc class make-ups is available on the Registrar’s website.
Overall, we ask faculty to attempt to maintain instructional continuity when possible and to clearly communicate any decisions with students and their school or college leadership.
Sincerely,
James Antony
Provost and Executive Vice President
