The polling partnership between the Washington Post and the Schar School of Policy and Government has made national headlines again. A new survey released October 3 shows Democrat Abigail Spanberger with a double-digit lead over Republican opponent Winsome Earle-Sears in the race to be Virginia’s next governor.
The election is seen as a national bellwether as it is one of only two gubernatorial races in the November 4 election. (The other is New Jersey.)
Former CIA officer and congresswoman Spanberger leads Earle-Sears, the state’s lieutenant governor by 12 percentage points, 55 percent to 43 percent.
In the lieutenant governor’s race, Democratic state senator Ghazala F. Hashmi of Richmond holds a narrow edge over Republican talk-radio host John Reid, 49 percent to 45 percent among likely voters. For attorney general, Democratic nominee Jerrauld “Jay” Jones leads Republican incumbent Jason S. Miyares, 51 percent to 45 percent.
