The Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University has launched an exciting and insightful new way to engage with the world of public affairs: a podcast series titled Policy and Governance Perspectives. The series offers listeners an inside look at how today’s most pressing political and policy issues intersect with the research and teaching taking place at the Schar School.
The inaugural episode, available Wednesday, October 15, sets the tone for what’s to come. “The Virginia Way: Bipartisan Lessons in Leadership and Governance” brings together former Virginia governors Robert McDonnell and Terry McAuliffe, both Distinguished Professors of Practice at the Schar School, for a candid conversation about leadership, compromise, and governing in an age of division. The discussion is moderated by Schar School Professor of Practice and former Virginia Delegate David Ramadan, who draws on his own experience in Richmond to guide the conversation.
A second episode follows, taking listeners inside the federal government shutdown with Jeremy Mayer, Schar School professor, and guest cohost Steve Ellis, president of Taxpayers for Common Sense. Together, they unpack what really happens when Washington grinds to a halt—and what it means for the country.
Each 30- to 45-minute episode of Policy and Governance Perspectives dives into themes of politics, national security, and governance, providing insights that bridge the classroom and the wider world. The series highlights the expertise and curiosity that define the Schar School community, offering thoughtful, timely perspectives for anyone interested in how government really works.
