Controller
Reports To: CEO and CFO
FLSA Status: Exempt, full-time
We are seeking a highly meticulous, assertive, and results-driven Controller to lead our core financial operations while also overseeing Human Resources as a secondary responsibility. This role requires someone capable of managing eight-figure revenue streams independently, supported by modern software and automation. The ideal candidate will uphold the highest financial standards, ensure accountability across project teams, and drive timely, accurate reporting and HR compliance through the smart use of technology and well-established processes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee and manage all financial transactions, reporting, and reconciliations with accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, WIP reports, and revenue forecasts.
- Process and enter all pay requisitions for all active projects. Balance Job Overview Reports.
- Process payroll for field and office staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure real-time financial oversight, reporting and forecasting through the integration of Sage Intacct, Procore, and Google Sheets/Excel. 1
- Monitor cash flow, budgets, and project financials, ensuring profitability across all
operations. - Serve as the primary liaison with banking partners and financial institutions.
- Maintain up-to-date logs of company vehicles and equipment for financial tracking and
audit readiness.
Accounting, Compliance & Risk Management
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate financial statements
and timely tax filings. - Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards,
working closely with external CPAs for tax filings and audits. - Manage business tax filings, payroll tax compliance, and corporate financial obligations.
- Manage insurance, sureties, and risk mitigation for company financial operations.
- Develop, improve, and implement internal accounting controls across project teams and
the company
Human Resources & Onboarding
- Serve as the primary HR lead, overseeing onboarding, benefits administration, and
compliance with labor laws. - Ensure a seamless onboarding experience for all new hires, including setup in financial
and project management systems. - Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, including 401(k) administration
and compliance reporting. - Oversee company policies, performance evaluations, and employee relations to support
a positive workplace culture. - Work closely with company leadership to develop HR initiatives that align with business
objectives.
Process Optimization & Technology Utilization
- Leverage automation to improve financial and HR workflows, reducing manual entry and
increasing accuracy. - Drive seamless integration between Sage Intacct, Procore, and Google Sheets for
efficient job cost tracking and reporting. - Develop and implement internal financial and HR security controls to safeguard
company assets and ensure 100% compliance with policies.
Leadership & Growth
- Operate independently and confidently while managing high-revenue financial
operations and sensitive HR matters. - Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team, offering financial and operational insights
to support strategic decisions. - Provide financial oversight, guidance, and training to Project Managers, Estimators, and
field teams on cost tracking, forecasting, and financial accountability. - Contribute to shaping the company’s long-term financial strategy, HR practices, and
operational performance.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Required
5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with significant weight placed on prior
experience in the construction industry. - Proven experience leading HR responsibilities, including onboarding, benefits
administration, and employee compliance. - Strong proficiency in Sage (preferably Sage Intacct), Procore, Google Workspace
(especially Sheets), and Microsoft Excel. - Demonstrated experience with WIP reporting, revenue recognition, and construction job
costing. - Highly meticulous, assertive, and confident in a position of authority—able to hold
teams accountable while fostering strong, professional relationships. - Ability to work independently while managing high-revenue operations and maintaining
accurate, timely financial reporting.
Preferred but Not Required
- CPA or CMA certification.
- HR certifications such as PHR or SHRM-CP.
- Experience leading financial and HR operations in a commercial general contracting
environment.
SALARY RANGE:
$90,000-$140,000
Accounting Specialist
Reports To: CEO and Controller
FLSA Status: Exempt, full-time
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounting Specialist to support key financial transactions and reporting functions across the company. While prior experience is not required, this individual must be exceptionally sharp, capable of learning quickly, comfortable handling significant financial responsibility, and maintain a high level of discretion while handling critical company information. A background in construction accounting is a plus but not necessary; however, strong understanding of accounting principles must be present. This role involves supporting eight-figure revenue streams, while adeptly interfacing with accounting software and automation tools. The ideal candidate will either have–or be eager to develop–competency in job costing, payroll processing, WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting, and managing accounts payable and receivable. The Accounting Specialist will be expected to uphold the highest financial standards, promote accountability across project teams, and drive timely, accurate reporting through the use of technology and sound accounting practices. Additionally, this individual will assist the Controller with human resources and employee onboarding as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Accurately process and record vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and financial transactions across active projects.
- Assist in preparing internal financial summaries and reports, including job cost tracking and basic monthly reconciliations.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger entries under supervision.
- Support integration between accounting and project management platforms (Sage Intacct, Procore, Google Sheets).
- Work with the Controller to ensure accurate revenue recognition and job cost tracking.
Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and Payroll Assistance
- Enter and code accounts payable invoices; ensure proper documentation and internal approvals.
- Support accounts receivable tasks, including invoice preparation and payment tracking.
- Assist with verifying subcontractor invoices, compliance documentation (such as lien waivers), and contract terms.
- Verify and process subcontractor invoices, ensuring lien waivers and compliance with contract terms.
- Help review timesheets and prepare data for payroll processing; support compliance with certified payroll when needed.
- Provide backup support for payroll tax filings and year-end reporting.
Accounting, Compliance & Operational Support
- Contribute to accurate month-end close activities, financial records maintenance, and document organization.
- Help maintain vendor, subcontractor, and project files to support audit readiness.
- Work closely with the Controller to ensure financial operations are aligned with company policies and industry best practices.
Human Resources & Onboarding
- Assist with new hire onboarding processes, including system setup and document collection.
- Support benefits tracking and employee data entry in collaboration with HR and payroll.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Embrace and learn accounting systems, automation tools, and spreadsheet workflows to improve speed and accuracy.
Support the development of process documentation and best practices for financial workflows.
Administrative and Support Functions
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date vendor records, subcontractor agreements, and business license documentation.
- Assist with tracking company vehicle and equipment logs for accounting and audit purposes.
- Provide occasional administrative support for HR-related financial tasks, such as 401(k) contributions and benefit records.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Required
- Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree (or working toward one) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptionally sharp, organized, and meticulous with numbers and documentation.
- Technical Aptitude: Strong Google Sheets and Excel skills; comfort learning new software platforms. Experience with any accounting system (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Procore) is a plus.
- Foundational Accounting Knowledge: Thorough understanding of basic financial principles such as debits/credits, reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Understanding of Payroll Processing: Experience handling certified payroll, prevailing wage laws, and multi-state payroll requirements.
- Work Ethic & Reliability: A self-starter who takes ownership of their responsibilities and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Coachability: Eager to learn and grow under the mentorship of an experienced Controller; welcomes feedback and continuous improvement.
- Communication: Clear, professional communication skills, especially when collaborating with project teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Preferred but Not Required
- Internship or experience in an accounting, finance, or business operations role.
- Exposure to construction accounting concepts such as job costing, WIP reporting, or AIA billing.
- Interest or experience in supporting HR functions like onboarding or payroll processing.
- Familiarity with Procore, Sage Intacct, or other construction tech platforms.

$45,000 – $60,000
