Q: What is your hometown?
A: I was born and raised in Woodbridge, VA.
Q: Why did you choose Mason's Arts Management program for your graduate studies?
A: I have always been a performer. I started dancing at age 5, singing and playing piano at 9, acting at 11, and I never stopped! I got my bachelor’s degree from GMU, majoring in theatre with a concentration in performance and minoring in music with a vocal emphasis. I graduated in December 2022. At that point, I had already decided I wanted to go into Arts Management. I had first heard of the program in my freshman year at Mason, and I had held the information in the back of my mind until the time came to apply. I chose to apply for the Arts Management Master's program because I wanted to expand my options within my career field. While I love performing, I’ve always had an interest in the business side of “show-biz.” With the wide array of classes and the focus on non-profit work and arts in society, I believed that the program would give me the tools I needed to succeed. The program’s emphasis on career-readiness was incredibly important to me and it fit well into my learning capacity. Ultimately, I applied because the AMGT program aligned with my educational and career goals, and the community made me feel right at home.
Q: What has been your favorite class or project so far in the Arts Management Program?
A: AMGT 620: Legal Issues in Arts Management with Brian Goldstein. Brian is a wonderful and engaging professor, and he makes all the legal jargon easy to digest. As someone who is going into more of the legal side of management, this course changed the game for me. I recommend everyone take it as an elective!
Q: What is your favorite arts activity?
A: There are so many to choose from that I don’t think I can choose a favorite! I love to sing, dance, act, paint, and sew. I do have a bit of a bias for the performing arts, though. Put me on a stage and watch me go!
Q: What advice would you share with future arts managers?
A: Bring your most authentic self to the table, and don’t be afraid to push your boundaries! The arts are all about innovation and exploration. Your job as an arts manager is to inspire growth and change, both in yourself and others.
Q: Do you have any exciting projects on the horizon you can share?
A: Within the next year, my first short film will be premiering (I wrote, produced, and starred in it with my best friend), and I will be opening my own talent management agency! More updates to come…
