Hylton

For the past decade, our Hylton Center-based Veterans and the Arts Initiative has served as an arts and community hub for more than 16,000 military-connected people. One aspect of its mission is to offer engaging performances by artists who have a deep attachment to the military community. This November, we are thrilled to bring to the stage the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own” in A Salute to Veterans (11/7) and Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez in Concert (11/9).

Since 1922, the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" has served our nation through music and proudly connects the Army to the American people through its concerts. In collaboration with George Mason University's Veterans and the Arts Initiative, A Salute to Veterans (11/7) will feature the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in a moving concert of anthems, beloved classics, and a few surprises! This performance is an expression of gratitude to those who exemplify unwavering dedication and determined commitment to duty, inspiring us all to strive for excellence and service in our own lives.

Mandy Gonzalez, a proud granddaughter of a World War II Veteran and daughter of a Vietnam War Veteran, also celebrates Veterans through special musical selections in Mandy Gonzalez in Concert (11/9). George Mason University’s Veterans and the Arts Initiative proudly sponsors this performance, offering free tickets for Veterans and Servicemembers. You may recognize Gonzalez’s stunning voice from memorable Broadway roles including Nina Rosario in In The Heights, Elphaba in Wicked, Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, and currently, Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. One of Gonzalez’s signature songs, Fearless, tells the story of how her parents met through military service and how their courage has motivated her.

Tickets for the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own” A Salute to Veterans (11/7) are free to the public and available through the Hylton Center Ticket Office (703-993-7759) and online.
