Join us in the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery this fall for a new exhibition: Scenes from Behind the Wall: Images of East Germany, 1989/1990 (9/10–11/2). During this time period, Germany experienced monumental change as the Berlin Wall was dismantled and the beginning of German reunification commenced.
Photographers Helmut Brinkmann and Page Chichester documented East Germany between December 1989 and January 1990. Their powerful collection of photographs offers a window into this pivotal historical period with images that reflect the stark realities and budding optimism among the German people. Thirty-five years later, these photographs, all part of the Permanent Art Collection of George Mason University, provide an opportunity to reflect on this critical historical juncture.
This exhibit is on display now through November 2.
