The breadth of artistic talent and resources that exist in our community is truly impressive! Here at the Hylton Center, we’re proud to be a cultural hub and home base for many arts organizations. Under the umbrella of our Arts Alliance, we have six official Arts Partners who present extraordinary programming on our stages all season long. These partners are: the Manassas Ballet Theatre, the Manassas Chorale, the Manassas Symphony Orchestra, Prince William Little Theatre, the Creative and Performing Arts Center (CAPAC), and Youth Orchestras of Prince William.
This month, several Arts Partners are on full display at the Hylton Center. The Manassas Symphony Orchestra kicks things off with Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler! Featuring Doreen Ketchens (5/4).
“Doreen Ketchens is legendary in the jazz world," said James Villani, music director for the Manassas Symphony Orchestra. “She is among the most elite clarinetists playing today, blending her classical training with New Orleans tradition. We can’t wait to share the stage with this all-time Dixieland great—the Clarinet Queen of New Orleans!”
Up next, Creative and Performing Arts Center (CAPAC) presents Crowns: A Gospel Musical (5/11–12; 5/18–19). It’s the feel-good story of a teenager sent to live with her grandmother in South Carolina who finds connection among a community of resilient African American women in their church hats.
“This jubilant musical tribute to hats worn in traditional Black churches delivers messages that are universal and guarantees a joyful experience for all who attend,” says CAPAC co-founder Denise McPhail.
Next, Manassas Ballet Theatre closes out its season with a classic: Romeo and Juliet (5/17–5/19).
“Featuring over 50 members of our orchestra, our corps of professional dancers, and stunning new staging, Shakespeare’s story will come to life on the Merchant Hall stage,” promises Amy Wolfe, the troupe’s artistic director and CEO.
Lastly, the Manassas Chorale invites you to take a musical journey with their concert Musical ‘Pearls’ from Three Decades (5/31).
“We’re excited to sing a whole concert of our favorite pieces from the last three decades and be joined by singers from the Greater Manassas Children’s Choir and by former Chorale singers for our final piece,” said Becky Verner, the group’s director. “It will be a great evening and there will be both touching and toe-tapping selections!”
