The Carter School Dean Alpaslan Özerdem was named to the Alliance for Peacebuilding’s Board of Directors, further cementing the Carter School’s commitment to long-term partnering for peace with impactful organizations.
The Carter School’s history with the Alliance for Peacebuilding goes back to its beginning, when Henry Hart Rice Professor Susan Allen was a founding member of the Alliance for Peacebuilding and previously served as Chair of the Board.
Founded in 1999, the Alliance for Peacebuilding is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that seeks to build a world where “people build peace and manage conflict without violence.” With over 15,000 members representing more than 200 organizations working in 181 countries, the Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) is a network of peacebuilding professionals advancing the interests of sustainable peacebuilding and security, enabling their organizations to expand their reach and impact.
Like the Carter School, the AfP relies on the pillars of research and education. Past work includes the Peer Learning Community for Evaluation of Interreligious Dialogue Initiatives, the Global Fragility Act, and the Eirene Peacebuilding Database.
“The Alliance for Peacebuilding is a remarkable institution. It unites organizations and individuals who share a common goal to create a peaceful and just world. Since its inception, it has made significant progress in enhancing coordination, pooling resources, and setting future agendas,” noted Dean Özerdem. “As a member of its Board of Directors, I aim to contribute the academic perspective of a conflict resolution school with a rich 40-year history. I am excited to be part of this transformative institution and its journey.”
