Chorale Broadway Showcase: Broadway at the Movies

Musical theater fans, this one is for you! The latest offering in our Mason Student Performances series is the Chorale Broadway Showcase: Broadway at the Movies (4/6). The concert spotlights the talents of George Mason University’s Dewberry School of Music University Chorale.

“The annual Broadway showcase is one of my favorite concerts of the year,” said Lisa Billingham, director of choral activities in the Dewberry School of Music. “It is an opportunity to teach my students about this amazing American art form within a choral setting. The theme this year was chosen as we witness more musicals being turned into movies—making the option to see a show more accessible to those who might not have the opportunity to see it on The Great White Way in New York City.”

This energetic concert is often a highlight for the student performers as well.

“The music we are performing for our showcase is uplifting, lighthearted, and overall fun,” said Ash Matos, Choral Music Education major. “It helps create a welcoming environment for the members of the choir and those who listen to the concert. University Chorale has given me a feeling of community that is hard to find in other places.”

Isaiah Clayton, Theater major, added: “This production has provided a solid foundation for me to break the ice as a freshman performer at George Mason University. I've continued honing my craft while also encountering and networking with like-minded peers. I'm confident that by the end of this semester, my performance skills will have significantly improved.”

Building esteem and joining in a close-knit community is a common theme among University Chorale singers.

“I feel like the showcase has given me a new sense of confidence,” said Erin Marie Davis, Policy and International Politics, and Music major. “Everyone is so passionate and wants to do their best, and I have really bonded with some of those people over that and have made friendships that will last a lifetime.”

Join us for this uplifting concert, and lend your voice to the sing-along finale!
