This year’s Gala honors community leader Carlos Castro and the Jacquemin Family Foundation for their commitment to upholding artistic excellence in our region. An entrepreneur by nature, Carlos Castro has ventured into a variety of activities and businesses, from a dishwasher laborer, to remodeling contractor, to real estate agent, to restaurateur—and for the last 31 years, owner of the successful grocery store chain: Todos Neighborhood Market. Castro is a clear example of what hard work, determination, and sacrifice immigrants bring to the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States. An active member of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the Hylton’s Executive Board, Castro hopes to reach out to the younger community and get them involved in activities that will lead them to become successful and respectful leaders.
The Jacquemin Family Foundation, established in 1997, supports charitable causes across Northern Virginia and the Greater Washington region, especially in the fields of education, the arts, environmental conservation, housing, and early childhood education. John Jacquemin, a current member of the George Mason University Foundation Board of Trustees and former Board of Visitors member, and his wife, Tracie, have been ardent supporters of the Hylton Center and Mason as a whole. They have given generous gifts to support the Hylton Center building fund and the endowment and even established the Education Abroad Scholarship that provides support to study abroad for at least a dozen deserving Mason students each year.
Join us as we celebrate these community leaders at the 13th Anniversary Gala on April 28.
