The Henry Ford’s Simmons Internship Program is designed for current graduate students pursuing careers in museums, historical agencies, conservation labs or related fields. This internship provides participants with a great opportunity to gain in-depth work experience in a major American history museum.

Organization and Processing of the Stumpf Office and Home Libraries
The Henry Ford’s Simmons Internship Program is designed for current graduate students pursuing careers in museums, historical agencies, conservation labs, or related fields.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Sorting and organizing from the Bill Stumpf collection
- Processing books
- Updating/Creating bibliographic records as needed
- Create a capstone presentation of completed work
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with handling library materials
- Experience with Marc Records (coursework is fine)
- Strong organizational skills
- Current enrollment in a graduate-level program
The Lillian F. Schwartz Archives: Collection Processing
The Archives and Library seek a Simmons Intern to assist in furthering the assessment, inventorying, and processing of this collection in order to improve its serviceability and findability for our internal and external researchers.
Duties and responsibilities: Working with the Archives Team onsite at the Benson Ford Research Center, the duties of the intern will include:
- Finishing partially complete box-level inventory for main portion of collection.
- Conducting shelf inventory for A/V portion of collection.
- Conducting drive-level inventory of electronic records found in the collection.
Required Qualifications:
- Interest in gaining experience with description and access of archival collections.
- Understanding of archival description standards and practices including Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).
- Strong writing and communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Current enrollment in a graduate-level program.
The Lillian F. Schwartz Archives: Curatorial Content Development and Research
Working with the Curator of Communications & Information Technology, this intern will assist with collections research and content development connected to the Lillian Schwartz collection and exhibition. Primarily, this project will focus on the creation of accessible, accurate and engaging content pieces that will support ongoing public engagement with work by Lillian Schwartz.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Develop several pieces of written content to support the Schwartz collection and exhibit using primary source material
- Assist curator with research relevant to the Schwartz collection including: specific histories of Schwartz’s work within the context of media and computing history, broad context of female-identifying and disabled artists working with technology, Schwartz’s various collaborators, etc.
- Assist curator with public programs, tours and other logistics related to the Schwartz exhibit
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to produce accessible and engaging content for general museum audiences
- Knowledge and interest in media art, film, computer/software or technology histories
- Interest in identifying and applying contemporary frameworks to historical material archives & museum collections
- Ability to work independently on matters related to research and content development
- Current enrollment in a graduate-level program
