Youth Music Teacher
Description: Metropolitan School of the Arts seeks submissions for a music teaching artist for the Metropolitan Homeschool Program (MHP). MHP provides 3-hours of enrichment programming in acting, music, and dance for home-educated students in the DC area. The classes follow the full school year culminating in an in-house “sharing” for family and friends in the spring. This position is for the Junior class (7-9 years old), Intermediate class (10-13 years old), and Senior class (14-17 years old).
About MSA: Metropolitan School of the Arts is a non-profit (501c3) arts education studio located in Alexandria, VA. MSA operates both a full-day private performing arts school (The Academy) and an after school enrichment program for students ages 2-18, as well as classes for adults.
Time: Tuesdays, 11:30am-2:30pm; September - May Start
Date: Ideally Nov 29th, 2022 (flexible to a later start date, if need be)
Pay: $40-$50/hour, depending on experience

COVID-19 Protocols: • Staff and eligible students are recommended, though not required, to be vaccinated. • Masking is currently optional for all students and staff, per Fairfax County Health Department’s guidelines • Building HVAC system and individual room air purification systems have both been updated to meet recommended CDC standards for air filtration.
Qualifications: Required: • Experience leading creative exercises in choral singing, rhythm, music theory, or basic instrument play • Collaborative spirit to work within a small program-team of 4 • Strong classroom management skills and excitement for working with youth
Preferred: • Bachelor’s Degree in music, music education, musical theatre, or related field (can be substituted by equivalent experience) • Experience lesson-planning, preferably in an extracurricular setting • Experience working with students with learning differences or adaptation needs
