Cherry Blossom prediction competition returns in 2023

Body

Last year, George Mason hosted the first ever international cherry blossom prediction competition, which will return in 2023. The competition was created by Statistics professors Jonathan Auerbach and David Keplinger, and Elizabeth Wolkovich with the Department of Forest and Conservation Services.

In the competition, which is open to everyone, statistics students can submit their predictions for peak bloom dates for cherry blossoms in four locations around the world – Washington, DC; Kyoto, Japan; Leistal-Weideli, Switzerland; and Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Those interested in entering the competition next year can check the official site for information and dates, which will be posted around February 2023.
