On Sunday, April 10, an Artists-In-Conversation (AIC) event will be held as a benefit for the Friends of the Center for the Arts (FCFA) at the Contributor level and above, preceding the Virginia Opera’s performance of The Marriage of Figaro. The event will be held in the Buchanan Hall Lobby from 12 to 1 p.m., with Peggy Kriha Dye, General Director and CEO of the Virginia Opera, and Rick Davis, Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Dye will be discussing the future of opera – where is it going and what’s new within the industry to keep it fresh and attract new audiences.

Dye assumed her position with the Virginia Opera on October 18, 2020, right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. She was the General and Artistic Director and CEO at Opera Columbus prior to assuming her current position. She has a superlative opera background, having performed as a soprano on more than 100 stages in over 40 productions throughout the world from 1992 through 2017.

In addition to hearing from Dye, the AIC will also feature a light buffet brunch consisting of a variety of tea sandwiches, fruits, and pastries. Immediately following the brunch, a pre-performance discussion will be held at 1:15pm in the Dr. Linda Apple Monson Grand Tier followed by the performance of The Marriage of Figaro at 2 p.m.

Invitations to attend the AIC were sent to all Friends of the Center for the Arts members who contribute at the Contributor level or above. Current members who subscribe at the Friends level need only to increase their membership contribution by $50 to be at the Contributor level, thereby qualifying to receive invitations to future AIC events and Friends benefits—such as being the first to hear the upcoming 2022/2023 season. Don't miss the next event, become a Friend or increase today!

This event is being co-chaired by FCFA Board members Ida Portland, Shirley Joyce, and Janice Sutera Wolfe.
