Despite winter’s frigid temperatures, Hylton Presents performances heat up Merchant Hall this February with an inspiring and diverse offering of entertainment from classical repertoire by one of eastern Poland’s largest music institutions to a celebration of Latinx cultures through innovative dance.
The Polish Wieniawski Philharmonic Orchestra (2/5) rouses spirits in an evening of innovative works that explore themes of resiliency and freedom. Under the direction of esteemed Maestro Wojciech Rodek, the program features Polish composers Witold Lutosławski’s Mala Suite and Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, as well as pieces by other acclaimed composers, including Schubert, Grieg, Brahms, and more. Piano soloist Tomasz Ritter, first-prize winner of the 1st International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments in Warsaw, also performs with the orchestra. Gracing the stage in mid-February is the vibrant dance troupe and Hylton Center Artists-in-Residence, Ballet Hispánico. A renowned Latinx dance organization, Ballet Hispánico was recently recognized by the Ford Foundation as one of America’s Cultural Treasures. Enjoy an evening that celebrates and explores Latinx cultures through innovative dance. As Artists-in-Residence, the ensemble will also work with the community through classes and workshops during the week leading up to their February 19 performance.
