Hylton Center Artist-in-Residence Ballet Hispánico takes the stage on February 19 for an evening of innovative dance that celebrates and explores Latinx cultures. Established in 1970 by National Medal of Arts recipient, Tina Ramírez, Ballet Hispánico was founded with a vision to bring people together to appreciate Latinx cultures through transformative dance performance, training, and engagement experiences. The ensemble’s Artistic Director and CEO Eduardo Vilaro shares, "After such a long pause in live performances, Ballet Hispánico is excited to be back on the road and headed to the Hylton Center. Our Noche de Oro program is a celebration of 50 years of exploring Latinx culture through dance, and we cannot wait to share this exciting evening with our Ballet Hispánico familia in Virginia." Vilaro has created five pieces for Ballet Hispánico’s Noche de Oro: A Celebration of 50 years, including one that spotlights choreographer Gustavo Ramírez Sansano’s 19 years with the organization and the vulnerability, care, and hope that comes with each artistic endeavor; Batucada Fantástica, which examines the music and dancers of Carnival in Rio; and more.

Did you know that in addition to being featured as performers on the Hylton Presents series, this renowned dance troupe will also bring their talents into our community this spring as a Hylton Center Artist-in-Residence. Members of the company  will conduct classes and workshops for hundreds of area residents, including elementary through high school students; dancers within George Mason University’s School of Dance; as well as Lifelong Learning Institute members. We look forward to sharing more about their incredible impact during their residence activities.
