Join us for an inspiring variety of musical offerings in October starting with pop favorites and blues sounds from Carly Harvey’s Kiss & Ride (10/3); a unique behind-the-scenes exploration of classical music in Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel: Classics Declassified (10/10); and Big Band Era classics by the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (10/30).
Carly Harvey’s Kiss & Ride (10/3) concludes our fall Hylton on the Hill outdoor performance series with a lively fusion of original music, blues classics, and unique arrangements of pop favorites. Based in Washington, D.C., Carly’s rich sound calls to mind jazz vocal greats from Etta James to Ella Fitzgerald as the two-time D.C. Blues Society Battle of the Bands winner seeks to bridge the gap between wider audiences and blues aficionados in a creative mix of current music and blues standards. Next, the Hylton Center celebrates the return of indoor performances as it welcomes Jeffrey Siegel back to Merchant Hall in Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel: Classics Declassified (10/10). Enjoy works by Mozart, Shubert, and Schumann while discovering the stories behind familiar piano works by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, and other iconic composers. An interactive question and answer session will conclude the program. October swings to a close with the coolest cats in town, the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (10/30) under the direction of alto sax virtuoso Jim Carroll. Tap your toes to a program of music from the libraries of jazz legends Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodwin, and more!
