Catch a star on the rise in Mason Arts at the Hylton, an inspiring series highlighting the talented students from George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.
Experience diverse and innovative choreography performed by Mason School of Dance students in Fall New Dances (11/12—11/13). Then join the Dewberry School of Music’s Mason Opera for Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon (11/19—11/21), a charming re-telling of the famous Cinderella story with a distinctly French flair. Expect mean stepsisters, a grumpy stepfather, and the requisite Fairy Godmother, and see for yourself why Viardot’s works are being rediscovered and reevaluated in light of her remarkable career as a singer, pianist and composer. Mason Arts at the Hylton’s fall programming concludes with Dance Innovations (12/3—12/4), a showcase of new dances by Mason’s School of Dance. We know we’re witnessing something special in the making with these productions, but don’t just take our word for it:
"Fall New Dances at the Hylton Center will spotlight our ambitious and thoughtful young dancers and choreographers. Enjoy works presented by a variety of musical genres, movement styles, and passionate performers.“ — Roger Jeffrey, Artistic Director, Fall New Dances.
"Fall New Dances and Dance Innovations showcase original choreography, both created and performed by our talented BFA dance majors. Please come see these exceptional young artists at the beginning of their careers taking the stage at the Hylton Center." — Karen Reedy, Director, Mason School of Dance.
