Around the Corner…
There are some songs that simply capture everything you find yourself wanting to say at a particular moment in time, only they do it better. Right now, for me, that song is “Something’s Coming,” Tony’s first act rouser from Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. A song of hope, a song of aspiration, a song that seems to acknowledge being a little bit stuck but ready to break loose…
Something’s comin’,
Don’t know when
But it’s soon
Catch the moon
One-handed catch!
Around the corner
Or whistlin’ down the river
How perfectly does that catch our mood right now, as we prepare for a fantastic September full of energy and artistry. We have all been a little bit stuck over this past year and a half, but like Tony we have kept our eyes and ears open for the first signs of change. And, if we do the things we need to do to keep each other safe and well, that moment is upon us, as this edition of the newsletter makes abundantly clear.
So let’s all do that, in the spirit of mutual care and generosity that so robustly defines and animates our Hylton Center community. It’s up to all of us to make Tony’s hope a reality, so we can sing along with him in full, confident expectation:
The air is hummin’
And something great is comin’!
See you soon!
