Behind the scenes at #DoYourPartMason

Many people at George Mason University have contributed to the safe return to campus. Some, though, have flown under the radar.

Ron Scott
Associate Director, Housing Facilities

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and Mason closed its campuses for the spring 2020 semester, Scott decided the best way to lead in a crisis was to show up. So while many, for good reason, decided to work from home, Scott was on Mason’s Fairfax Campus.

“For me, I thought it was important to show to my staff that we still show up and do what we have to do, and that is to serve our residents and keep them and the buildings safe,” Scott said.

Now, with campus again open, Scott said the mission remains the same.

But Scott said this shouldn’t be about him, but about Mason’s frontline workers—the housekeepers, maintenance staff, food service workers and bus drivers—who, as he said, “put their health and safety at risk to keep our facilities safe and clean.”
