Sorrell
The Institute for Digital InnovAtion on the Arlington Campus will be a place "where people walking by [should] be able to see a demonstration of new technology inside and 'feel like they want to be part of it,'" according to Paula Sorrell, George Mason University's associate vice president of innovation and economic development. Sorrell was recently profiled by the Washington Business Journal.
Sorrell will be developing entrepreneurial programming for the Arlington Campus and across the rest of the university.
One of many things she's looking forward to is the opportunity for Mason's researchers to partner with tech companies in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor. And she thinks Mason doesn't need to view Virginia Tech's Innovation Campus as a competitor, but as an ally, because “One university can try to attract sets of funders. But if there are multiples, with more deal flow, it's much easier to pull that funding into a region,” she said.
Sorrell oversees the Office of Technology Transfer; the Virginia Small Business Development Center state program; the Procurement Technical Assistance Center; business incubators in Fairfax, Warrenton, and Loudoun; and entrepreneurial programming for the innovation development in Arlington and on other Mason campuses.
