This week, the George Mason University’s Mason Korea Campus celebrated Chuseok, which means “autumn eve.” This year, the three-day holiday ran from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.

Every fifth day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar on the full moon, Koreans celebrate Chuseok, which is one of the nation’s most cherished holidays, said Doug Kim, manager of public relations and communications for Mason Korea. He said that, in some ways, it is equivalent to the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, as it is celebrated with family, relatives and traditional foods.

Over the years, Mason Korea has celebrated Chuseok in a variety of ways that brings the community together including playing traditional games, participating in cooking classes and other fun activities organized by Korean language and culture professor Hyang Lee in collaboration with various student organizations.
