Governor Ralph Northam is expected to announce new savings for Virginia’s colleges and universities during a visit to George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus today. The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Merten Hall, Room 1201.
President Gregory Washington is expected to introduce Gov. Northam and discuss how Mason has been impacted by coronavirus.
Gov. Northam is also expected to tour one of Mason’s nursing labs to see how faculty and students are working to combat coronavirus spread and help ensure a safe return to campus. Northam is also expected to visit Mason’s coronavirus testing site.
Mason is Virginia’s largest and most diverse public university. This fall, enrollment grew by about 2% compared with last fall for a total of 38,406 students. The university offers a variety of in-person, hybrid and online classes to ensure students get a quality education without sacrificing health and safety during the pandemic.
Members of the press are invited to attend the announcement, provided they complete the Mason COVID Health Check. There will be a capacity limit due to social distancing requirements. Gov. Northam’s announcement will be streamed via Facebook Live.
