An important part of George Mason University’s plan to keep our community safe during the pandemic is random testing to track asymptomatic COVID cases on our campus.
Anyone who indicates on the Mason COVID Health Check™ that they plan to come to campus during the fall semester is eligible to be randomly selected for testing. You will know you have been selected if you receive an email from the Safety, Emergency, & Enterprise Risk Management and Student Health Services team that is managing the on-site sampling.
As part of the university’s Do Your Part campaign and the Safe Return to Campus plan, we are asking everyone to participate if selected.
“This is a crucial part of our strategy,” said Julie Zobel, assistant vice president of Safety, Emergency, and Enterprise Risk Management, adding that participation has been strong among employees. “Employees have rallied, so we’re hoping they will spread the word. The test is not invasive or uncomfortable.”
The testing is conducted in the underground parking garage of the Ángel Cabrera Global Center on Mason Pond Drive on the Fairfax Campus, building 96 on the campus map. Appointment hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Participation in the random testing is mandatory for students who live on campus and optional but strongly encouraged for non-residential students, faculty and staff.
Tests are processed by a certified lab and results are communicated by test site staff. Learn more about the testing here.
