Where are you from?
I was born in Cali, Colombia and grew up mostly in Richmond, Virginia. I currently reside in Arlington, Virginia.
When do you plan to graduate?
I plan to graduate in the Spring of 2022.
What area are you focusing in (performance, education, design, stage management, directing, etc)?
My main passion and focus is directing. That being said, I try to do a little bit of everything to learn as much as I can.
What do you want to do after graduating?
After graduating, I hope to find a creative position at a local DC theatre and look for any opportunities to work on productions. Ideally, I would be able to work directly with established directors and have opportunities to direct myself.
What play would you recommend the Friends read?
I would recommend the Friends read Decision Hight by Meredith Dayna Levy.
What difference has this scholarship made for you?
The scholarship has allowed me to dedicate more time to my art and begin saving to move to Fairfax.
What made you want to come to Mason?
I knew I wanted to attend Mason because of the high reputation of their School of Theatre and its supporters. The DC arts scene has always been unique and supported by loyal lovers of local art, the same extends to Mason’s College of Performing and Visual Arts.
What School of Theater productions have you worked on?
So far, I have worked Lysistrata, Twelfth Night, The Women of Lockerbie, and The Last Days of Judas Iscariot; as well as directing two Mason Originals! pieces.
What are you most looking forward to doing after social distancing has ended?
I look forward to getting right back to creating powerful art with the friends and mentors I have found at Mason. I also look forward to meeting a whole new class of Mason Players to work with.
What is your favorite musical?
My favorite musical would have to be In the Heights; I love the music and it’s a very powerful story of being Hispanic in the United States.
What is your dream role or production to direct, design, or stage manage?
I love the works of Eugene Ionesco. My dream production to direct was The Bald Soprano, having done that, I would love to direct it again and even more works by great absurdist playwrights.
