Dear Colleagues,
In light of the rapid changes and disruptions that are occurring with COVID-19, the university has decided to suspend all student evaluations for spring semester. Going forward with evaluations at this time would lead to anomalies and skew results, making the data unusable. With this suspension, evaluations will not play a role in any Renewal, Promotion or Tenure materials nor will it impact contract renewal for term faculty.
Suspending the evaluations also means Mason won’t be able to pilot the new, faculty senate-approved questions on the teaching evaluation from this spring. Because the pilot questions address a number of important issues and concerns, it will be necessary to regroup with the Teaching Effectiveness Committee and make alternative plans.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Shannon Davis or Gesele Durham.
Thank you for your flexibility in this situation.
Sincerely,
S. David Wu
Provost and Executive Vice President
