A generous gift of software licenses for classroom use from technology leader UiPath will provide opportunities for thousands of George Mason University School of Business students to learn emerging technologies in robotic process automation.
UiPath’s in-kind donation includes 8,200 three-year user licenses, valued at $2,000 each, for a total value of $16.4 million.
“This game-changing contribution of RPA software and support from UiPath will be a valuable complement to the school's focus on the future of work, and will help our students gain insight into new models for business,” said Maury Peiperl, dean of the School of Business. “The opportunity for students and faculty to work with innovators like UiPath is of immense benefit to all involved.”
Robotic process automation, or RPA, allows users to configure computer software to emulate and integrate the actions of a human interacting within digital systems to execute a business process. RPA robots can capture data and manipulate applications, allowing them to trigger responses and communicate with other systems to perform a vast variety of repetitive tasks. Access to RPA software shows students how business will increasingly be done by robots—and illustrates how jobs can be created for those who understand it.

With more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students, Mason’s School of Business is the largest in Virginia. Undergraduate enrollment has increased by nearly 50% over the past five years.
