The George Mason University community came together to reaffirm the university's pledge to end sexual violence at Mason during the sixth annual Chapter Next: Ending Sexual Violence.
The program took place in the Hub Ballroom on Monday, Nov. 4, and brought over 150 participants including Mason faculty, staff and students together to educate and challenge themselves as they answer the call to action to end sexual and interpersonal violence. Mason’s president was also in attendance.
"We are thrilled that George Mason's Interim President Anne Holton has joined us,” said Angela Hattery, director of the Women and Gender Studies Program. “This is especially important because I think it signals, for me, the renewed commitment that George Mason is making to eradicating sexual and intimate partner violence, and I don't think that can be overstated."
Participants reaffirmed Mason’s pledge to end sexual violence at Mason and participated in activities such as creating over 80 snack packs for children associated with the local charity Women Giving Back, writing letters to survivors, and walking through an interactive social marketing campaign in which participants explored the impacts of sexual and interpersonal violence. Local and student organizations, such as Mason for Survivors, were represented at the event.
The event was sponsored by the Woman and Gender Studies Center, the Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Office and the Student Support and Advocacy Center.
