The Office of the Provost at George Mason University held a Student Experience Redesign Town Hall for faculty and staff to discuss the initiative’s progress, implementation plans and activities currently underway and upcoming.

Provost David Wu gave the opening remarks.

"One of [the university’s] aspirations is to provide access to excellence,” said Wu. “Not only do we want to provide them access to the institution, but we want to provide them with excellent education experience."

Wu added that not only is the university rapidly growing in numbers, but it is also growing in terms of diversity. Mason is a majority-minority institution, transfers are about half of the incoming class, and the university has many first-generation, Pell Grant recipients, veterans, and working students.

"[The Student Experience Redesign] is a very important initiative to fulfill our commitment to our students,” said Wu. “Like most universities, many of our systems were built with a traditional student in mind, students that we have been serving in the past. But with an increase in the diversity in backgrounds of students, we need to rethink how these different types of students are going to be experiencing their Mason education and how do we meet them where they are."
