In recognition of former George Mason University president Ángel Cabrera’s leadership, the university’s Board of Visitors voted to rename the Mason Global Center as the Ángel Cabrera Global Center.
International enrollment at Mason more than doubled during President Cabrera’s seven-year tenure, from 1,764 to 3,543, as did study-abroad participation. Mason’s Korea campus also was established and more than 800 students have enrolled there.
Under Cabrera’s leadership, the Global Center was repurposed from use as a hotel to the mixed-use facility is now. It houses INTO Mason, a program designed to prepare international students for study at Mason.
The naming becomes fully effective after Winter Break on Monday, January 6, 2020.
