Mason recognized for sustained excellence in fundraising

George Mason University is one of just 16 institutions of higher education recognized this year for “sustained excellence” by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Mason shares the honor with peers such as Harvard, UCLA, and the University of Texas, as well as several smaller institutions.

The CASE 2019 Educational Fundraising Awards, announced on June 11, recognize exemplary advancement and alumni relations programs based on a blind review of data submitted by more than 1,000 institutions to the CASE Voluntary Support of Education survey. Institutions recognized for Sustained Excellence have demonstrated consistent fundraising success over a five-year period.

“Again this year we recognize institutions that showed not just measurable growth, but also breadth and depth in terms of diversity of sources from which funds were raised,” said a CASE press release. “Judges also recognized institutions that overperformed, by ranking lower in terms of institutional budgets and enrollment, while ranking higher in terms of funds raised.”

Mason recently completed its record-setting Faster Farther campaign, which included significantly increasing the university’s endowment to a current total of more than $140 million. Mason is one of five public research institutions with endowments under $350 million that were honored for overall performance in fundraising.
