Class of 2018 Graduates Are Doing Well in the Job Market, Career Service Survey Shows

Based on newly available data from George Mason University Career Services, 2018 College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) graduates reported a 6.6% increase in the employment rate among undergraduate students who were seeking employment*, and a 22% increase in average salary (to $52,368) compared to the class of 2017. There was a 5.4% increase in the employment rate among graduate students who were seeking employment*, and a 23% increase in average salary (to $73,035) compared to the class of 2017.

Eighty-three percent of all CHHS graduates reported employment aligned with their career goals. The majority of CHHS graduates work in the health care industry, with the most frequent categories reported as hospitals and health care providers. Employers of CHHS graduates cover a range of organizations, and examples include INOVA, Med-Star, and Fairfax County Public Schools.

Notably, about one fifth of graduates said that they first learned about their jobs through internships, network events, faculty, and department programs. This echoes CHHS’s emphasis on providing all students with real-world experiences and hands-on practice.

A total number of 354 CHHS undergraduate students and 180 graduate students responded to the career plans survey.
