George Mason University will participate in the annual statewide tornado drill at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 19.
The campus community will receive a Mason Alert emergency notification announcing the start of the drill at 9:45 a.m., and the drill will end at 10 a.m.
Participation is optional, but it’s a great opportunity to identify or locate the nearest severe weather shelter area and to take a few minutes to review the Tornado and Severe Weather Guide with coworkers, students or friends.
All university students and employees will automatically receive Mason Alert notifications via their university email accounts but are encouraged to visit alert.gmu.edu to register a cell phone to receive alerts by text message.
Mason’s Environmental Health and Safety Office and the Department of Police and Public Safety also offer a public safety app, RAVE Guardian, for the campus community. Mason Alerts appear in the app as a notification.
