Campus community invited to engage on university budget

The George Mason University community has several opportunities to ask questions and give input about the university’s budget for the 2019-20 academic year.

The campus community is invited to attend sessions of the April 3 Board of Visitors meeting concerning the university’s budget and finances, including proposed tuition and fees for 2019-20.

The Finance and Land Use Committee Information Session will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m., with a public comment session to follow from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. Both will be held in the Hazel Conference Room (1201) of Merten Hall on the Fairfax Campus.

These sessions are scheduled in advance of the May 2 Board of Visitors meeting during which tuition and fees will be approved for the coming academic year.

Provost S. David Wu and Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance Carol Dillon Kissal will host “Mason Momentum: Strategies, Priorities & Financial Plan” on Tuesday, April 9, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Johnson Center Cinema.

Provost Wu and SVP Kissal will share progress on Mason’s strategic initiatives, highlights from the legislative session and an overview of the FY 2020 financial plan. After the presentation, the floor will be open for questions.

In addition to the live presentation at the Johnson Center Cinema on the Fairfax Campus, the presentation will be videoconferenced at the Arlington Campus in Founders Hall, Room 720; at the SciTech Campus in Bull Run Hall, Room 254; at Loudoun in Loudoun Signal Hill Room 101 and at Front Royal in Academic, Room 219.

To submit written comments and/or register to speak during the BOV public comment session, please access the registration link on the BOV website

The board will hear comments from the first 20 people who are registered to speak and are present.  Each speaker will have three minutes. To maximize the number of speakers, the board may ask speakers with duplicative comments to shorten their presentations. Speakers are also encouraged to submit their written comments at the time of registration. Special interest and/or groups of individuals are encouraged to select a spokesperson.

Due to the anticipated volume of registrations, not all will have the opportunity to speak. However, all written statements received through the website will be included in the record of the public comment session and will be provided to the board. The registration link will remain open until noon on Monday, April 1.

Please note that the Hazel Conference Room has limited occupancy. Once the room is at capacity, the space will be closed to additional attendees. Paid parking is available in the Rappahannock River Parking Deck adjacent to Merten Hall.
