Two of Mason's Film and Video Studies professors will enjoy world premiere screenings of their work at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival (January 24-February 3, 2019). Nikyatu Jusu’s short film Suicide by Sunlight will be shown in the U.S. Narrative Short Film category and the work of director of photography, Hans Charles, will be represented in the Indie Episodic category for Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men.
Suicide By Sunlight tells the story of Valentina, a day-walking Black vampire protected from the sun by her melanin, and who is forced to restrain her bloodlust to regain custody of her estranged daughters.
Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men tells of the cultural history of Wu-Tang Clan; artists who escape the poverty, violence, and oppression of their neighborhoods through music. They encounter wild success and heartbreak along the way to becoming the most recognized musical movement in the world—all while walking the tightrope that links business with brotherhood. The cast are all members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
