Kavon Williams, the latest member of staff to join the Schar School of Policy and Government, is no stranger to George Mason University. He joins us after a year at the graduate admissions office on Mason’s Fairfax campus.
In his new role as assistant director for graduate admissions, Williams will play a pivotal role in the decision-making process for prospective Schar School graduate students.
“I’m looking forward to being the bridge to getting students from the dream to reality,” he said.
The Montgomery
County, Md., native graduated from Howard University with a bachelor’s degree in human performance with a concentration in sports medicine. His passion for working with college students was established at George Washington University where, freshly out of Howard, he served as a transcript evaluator.“I have liked my professional transitions at every level,” he said. “I am now more involved in the decision making process so I am able to do more to support students as they make choices that will impact their future careers and, ultimately, the rest of their lives.”
In addition to supporting students navigate the main online application process, Williams will also guide students on program specific application requirements such as the minimum program qualifications; submission of supporting documents; transcript requirements; and admission decisions and deferments.
He will also team up with key Schar School departments to hold recruitment events, open houses, and information sessions throughout the academic year.
Williams said, “I’m here to help. I am here to be an asset to Schar School students.”
