University researchers as well as government and industry leaders involved in a broad array of homeland security research activities will meet at George Mason on May 30-31 for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Centers of Excellence Summit.
“Mason took the lead on this effort to provide avenues to encourage collaboration among the Centers of Excellence while accelerating the transition from research and development to field use.” said Mason CINA Director Anthony Stefanidis.
The event is hosted by Mason’s Criminal Investigations and Network Analysis (CINA) Center of Excellence, on behalf of the national network of 14 current and emeritus university-led DHS Centers of Excellence (COEs). The summit will feature an innovation showcase, keynote talks, panel sessions, networking opportunities and a student research poster session, and is open to the public.
“With an evolving research portfolio, we are always looking for new partners, fresh ideas, and innovative approaches, and we hope that this gathering will provide that opportunity for Mason researchers, and the broader stakeholder community,” Stefanidis said.
The summit takes place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31 at Mason’s Arlington Campus. See the agenda and learn further details here: https://cina.gmu.edu/coe-summit-2018/
CINA, the latest addition to the DHS network of Centers of Excellence, serves as an academic hub for thought leadership, the emergence of novel solutions, and workforce development. The Center supports the Homeland Security Enterprise in its efforts to effectively detect, disrupt and ultimately dismantle Transnational Criminal Organizations and other illicit actors.
Mason faculty and students with relevant interests can attend the summit or contact CINA leadership via email cina@gmu.edu to explore future partnership opportunities.
Registration closes on May 18. See https://cina.gmu.edu/conference/coe-summit-2018/registration/ for details.
