Each April for the past 22 years, University Life, Mason Athletics, Mason Police and community sponsors have honored the legacy of former student-athlete, Aimee Willard, a Mason soccer and lacrosse player who was murdered in Philadelphia in 1996 on her way home from a night out with her friends.
“Aimee’s Law,” named for Willard, gained U.S. Senate approval in 2000 as an amendment to the Juvenile Justice bill. Aimee’s Law requires a state that granted early release to an individual convicted of murder, rape of child molestation to pay the costs of prosecution and incarceration if that individual is convicted of any of those crimes in another state.
The Victims’ Rights Run/Walk is an interactive way to engage students to help them learn about all types of violence, including interpersonal violence, and raise money for a great cause.
