New York Times columnist David Brooks is the next guest to share the stage with George Mason University professor Tyler Cowen in the “Conversations with Tyler” series. The 90-minute dialogue takes place at 6 p.m. Monday, May 14, from in the Founders Hall auditorium on Mason’s Arlington Campus.
Cowen, an economist and general director of the Mercatus Center at Mason, which is hosting the talk, conducts on-stage conversations with thought leaders from a diversity of backgrounds. Previous guests in the “Conversations” series include Martina Navratilova, Peter Thiel, Nate Silver, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Camille Paglia and Malcolm Gladwell. Cowen envisions a typical wide-ranging discussion with Brooks, who writes a weekly column on culture and politics and is a frequent commentator on broadcast media. Among other things he said he is likely to bring up include the questions, “Why are people lonely?” “To what should we commit?” and “Is America still a nation based on a Puritan ethic?”
